While it’s been 20+ years since I’ve read Huck Finn, I’m fairly certain that the main point of the novel was to reveal the horrors and injustice of racism. This kind of “sterilization” strikes me as something that potentially dilutes that message - not to mention the fact that HF is lauded as one of the first American novels to actually use the vernacular of the time...
